Deacons Ordained in Accra
By
Emmanuel Okai
Saturday
July 19. 2003 was an occasion of celebration for the Accra, Ghana
congregation as two of its members were ordained to the office of
deacon.

Mr Adolphus Quarcoo of the
Forestry Commission and Dr Frederick Amu-Mensah of the Water Resources
Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial
Research had been nominated by the Co-Pastors of Accra and approved by
the Ecclesiastical Council for ordination. The Congregation had been
informed and were looking forward to the event. The candidates took
the opportunity to invite their relatives and friends to church.
Mr Alfred Ablordeppey gave
a sermon entitled Who is a
servant of
the Lord ? and this was followed by the ordination
ceremonies. The Co-pastor Chairman invited the candidates and their
wives and the Co-Pastors to the front. Then one after the other, he
led the way for the Co-Pastors to lay hands on and pray for the two
men. The ceremony over, the two were presented to the congregation as
deacons. Applause and rejoicing came spontaneously.
The atmosphere in the hall
after church was one of celebration. As tea and cake was served, the
hand shaking and embracing and congratulations could be seen
everywhere. Members of the music ministry and their tutors provided
music for the occasion.
The new method of
ordination in which candidates and congregation are asked questions to
which they respond, was most meaningful.
Afterwards, the ordained
men reported to some members the positive comments about the church
made by those they had invited.
