Letter
to the Editor
Dear Editors,
In his article, "Here he comes, ready or not," James Henderson says
that the prophetic words of our Lord find fulfillment in the human
record for every age of man's history. He also says that some leading
Christian opinion makers claim prophecy is unfolding and the end is
near.
To me, the following prophecies, not mentioned by him, indicate that
the end time could be near: Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the
Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world as a
testimony to all nations, and then the end shall come.
Our Lord instructs us not to look just for wars, rumours of wars,
famine, pestilence, etc, but for a time when the gospel is being
preached to the whole world.
Only today, due to modern communications is it possible to preach the
good news to the whole world. It has certainly not been
possible during every age of man's history.
Yours sincerely,
P. D. (Claremont, South Africa)
Editors: The purpose of the article was not to deny or confirm that
the end of the age
could be near, but to warn against pre-occupation with prophecy and
the inevitable disappointment when it fails to occur as expected. The
emphasis is on being ready spiritually for Christ's coming (Matthew
24:42-44).
