Joshua Derek Haughton, Feb. 12. He is the second son of Derek and Marisol (Oblites) Haughton of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; second grandson for Connie Duggins of Paramount, CA, and Margery Haughton of Smith Falls, Ontario.

Jonathan Martinez, son of Lydia Martinez, married Susanna Day, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Day, on July 22 in Lancaster, CA. They both serve in the Antelope Valley congregation, where Jonathan is an Associate Pastor.

Graduation

Eric Warren, pastor in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, was awarded a Master's Degree by Briarcrest Seminary in April. Eric’s area of study focused on leadership and management with a specialty in organizational leadership.

Obituaries

Richard Carlton Burns, 84, of Cahokia, IL, born Aug. 14, 1923, in Indianapolis, IN, died Sept. 29 at his residence. Mr. Burns was a member since July 1962 and served many of those years as a deacon and then as an elder, a capacity in which he continued to serve until his death. He was a retired truck driver for Singer Co. and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served with the VPB-118 Squadron in the Pacific theater.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne, nee Stewart, Burns; his children Doug (Victoria) Burns of Cottage Hills, IL, Linda (Art) Dyer of Columbia, MO, Wesley (Jacqueline) Burns of Glen Carbon, IL, Liz (Tony) Bohn of St. Louis, MO, and Andy Burns of Brentwood, MO; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his church family, Christian Family Church, in Belleville, IL. Private burial was held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Oct. 2.

Kathryn Jennings, 79, of West Union, IA, died Aug. 27 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; a son, David (Krystyna) of Tarzana, CA; a daughter, Christine (Bob) Clark of Lisbon, IA, a brother, Harlan Light of Alberta, Canada, four grandchildren, Dominika Jennings, Angela (Kent) Rosenboom, Kelly (Scott) Baxa and Jessica Clark; a great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Rosenboom; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Light, of Athens, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenneth Light.

She was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Fayette, IA, the daughter of Harold and Grace (Anderson) Light. She graduated from West Union High School in 1946 and from Luther College in 1949, majoring in music. She taught at Luana, IA, and married Kenneth Jennings on Aug. 6, 1950, in West Union. They farmed near Volga and Randalia, then quit farming and lived in Maynard and McGregor, where Kenneth did carpentry work. They retired to West Union in 1990. Kathryn served as pianist and deaconess at the Family of Faith Community Church in Richland Center and La Crosse, WI, and Waterloo and Cedar Rapids, IA. She enjoyed playing the piano, flowers, cooking, researching family genealogy and being with her family. Her husband, Kenneth, is an associate pastor at Family of Faith.

LaVaughn McGhee, 88, of Lindale, TX, died Aug. 17. Survivors include sons David McGhee of Tyler, Everett McGhee of Hawkins, daughter Janice Lee Mundt of Mineola, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Joseph P. Russell, 83, died on June 9. He was a member since 1986. Joseph was born in Ontario, Canada on April 20, 1924, and relocated to New York City in 1926 with his family. He was a veteran of the U.S Army in World War II, serving in Germany, France and Austria. He was wounded in Germany. He married Doris Marie Tremblay of Van Buren, Maine, on July 5, 1947, and raised a family of six children on Long Island, NY. Joseph was an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers member for 25 years. He was a devoted father and husband who led his family in the way of the Lord to his last breath. He is survived by six children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Zook, 91, of Gillette, WY, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Brooklyn, IA, died Sept. 2. Survivors include her children, Mary E. Wilson, Raymond Zook, Rita Zook and Jean Zook, all of Cedar Rapids, Earl Zook and Susan Zook, of Gillette, David Zook of Denver, CO, and Carol Wacker of Mount Vernon, IA. She attended the Cedar Rapids church until moving to a nursing home in Gillette.
