Ted Johnston conducts
YouthBuilder Conference
MEMPHIS, Tennessee—Pastors and members of the Central district participated in a YouthBuilder II (Foundations) seminar in Memphis, Sept. 6.
Community of Faith, the WCG congregation in Memphis, served as the host church for the conference conducted by Ted Johnston, co-director of the WCG National Youth Ministry Development Team. The primary purpose of the conference is to equip youth ministry workers to create congregational environments where the Holy Spirit can work to bring children, teens and young adults to know Jesus and grow in him as his young disciples.
These foundational elements to creating such environments, following the model of Jesus’ ministry, include developing an atmosphere of love, teaching a proper concept of Jesus, prayerfully dependent living, regular communion with God’s Word (Jesus) through Scripture, developing a biblical form of fellowship, and developing a life-style of consistently connecting with non-Christians.
The seminar involves the use of a comprehensive training workbook in about seven hours of intensive, interactive instruction. The workbook also provides extensive resources to help implement the principles taught.
“It is a profound blessing to conduct this training in youth ministry with older teens and adults in our fellowship who are so passionate about ministry to our kids,” Mr. Johnston said. “That God is advancing a contagious movement of youth ministry in our midst is both exciting and challenging. It gives me great hope for the future of our fellowship.”
The National Youth Ministry Development Team offers two seminars—YouthBuilders I, which explores the basic strategy for building disciplemaking youth ministries at the congregational level, and YouthBuilders II, which is an official Sonlife seminar titled “Foundations of Team Ministry.”
Those interested in bringing YouthBuilders I or YouthBuilders II to their church area may contact their district superintendent or district youth coordinator or the two YouthBuilder seminar trainers: Ted Johnston (ted.johnston@wcg.org) or Jeb Egbert (jeb.egbert@wcg.org).
