40 Days of Purpose

LAS VEGAS, Nevada—From Oct. 12 through Nov. 23, the Las Vegas congregation joined 4,000 other congregations of various denominations around the world to participate in the 40 Days of Purpose campaign.

The Las Vegas congregation joined with the Seven  Hills Community Church of Henderson, Nevada, for regular Sunday services as well as weekly small groups throughout the 40 days.

The program included reading The Purpose Driven Life, written by Rick Warren, founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, watching a video message each week by Pastor Rick and using a study guide to help facilitate small group sessions.

Attendance at the weekly worship service also focused on the five purposes highlighted in the book: (1)  You Were Planned for God’s Pleasure, (2) You Were Formed for God’s Family, (3) You Were Created to Become Like Christ, (4) You Were Shaped for Serving God, and (5) You Were Made for a Mission.

Fourteen small groups met once a week, with a total of 100 people in attendance. These included teens, singles, couples and seniors, who were anxious to learn the answer to the question, “Why on earth are we here?”

The weekly sermons, delivered by Pastor Tom Melear of the Las Vegas congregation, together with praise and worship music led by the Seven Hills Community Church, and several skits performed by members of both congregations focused on one of the five purposes.
