The Gathering:
Reconciliation event
in West Virginia

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia—Twenty Huntington area congregations gathered Oct. 5 for a reconciliation event referred to as “The Gathering.”

Michael Greider

Pastor Michael J. Greider coordinated this event and served as master of ceremonies. “The purpose was to reconcile three of the issues that have divided the Body of Christ across the Tri-State,” he said.

“What we hope to accomplish is a more harmonious relationship between congregations by dealing with denominational prejudice, prejudice between the evangelical and pentecostal/charismatic congregations, and racial prejudice.

The event began with worship led by the Kenova First Baptist Church music director and a combined choir from the participating congregations. Mr. Greider’s introduction focused on the need for working together. This was followed by a presentation by Pastor Ron McClung of the Kenova First Baptist Church about denominational prejudice.

Pastors took part in a foot washing, while another pastor performed a short drama. The evening’s event concluded with a communion service for more than  200 people.

“It was truly a powerful event that I feel touched the heart of God,” Mr. Greider said.
